Travelling by car

The distance to Villa Magdalen from Sofia is 550 km, with an average traveling time of 5 - 6 hours. Bucharest is only 300 km (3.5 hours by car).

International Airports

There are two international airports on the Bulgarian coast, Varna and Burgas, both to the South of Villa Magdalen. Varna is at only 40 km the closest to the villa. In summer there are direct flights from all Western European countries to Varna with TUI (a.o. from Manchester), Wizz Air, Condor, Norwegian Airlines and Easyjet). E.g. Wizz Air flies from London Luton (daily), Liverpool, twice a week from Eindhoven, Dortmund, Hamburg, Munchen, Berlin and Cologne. Travelling via Sofia, Bulgaria's capital, can be an alternative, with connecting flights Sofia - Varna that take about 50 minutes, and Austrian Airlines offers good connections with Vienna as their hub.

Burgas airport - 175 km

Please note: we don’t sell flight inclusive packages (we are a private villa owner with a professional take on renting out, but NOT a travel agency). However, we closely monitor flight schedules and prices of all airlines that serve VARNA. Give us a call if you need some tips on how to get there and where to look for your flights.

Transfer from the airport 

Your Villa Magdalen villa manager can pick you up at the airport in Varna for the price of only 39 Euro (total price for a group of 4 persons max), or 59 Euro for a party up to 12 people. If you are flying to Burgas Airport the prices will be 109 Euro (maximum of 4) and 179 Euro (up to 12). You can enter a transfer request from Varna Airport on your bookings form (or add this later) and the villa manager will collect you at the airport. If you prefer to arrange your own transport (car rental or taxi), the villa manager will wait for your arrival at the villa.

Car rental

There are many car hire options at the airport in Varna, in Albena and in Balchik. If you use the transfer service from the airport and want to hire a car after that, many car rental companies will deliver your rental car at the villa. In most cases you can return the car at the airport on your departure day. It is recommended to arrange your car rental in good time, especially for the mid- and high-season period.

Arranging your flights

As a private villa owner we cannot book a flight on your behalf. We are not a travel agency and therefore not licensed to offer flight-inclusive package holidays. But we do our research on the flight schedules for low cost flights directly to Varna from the UK, Belgium/The Netherlands, France, Germany, Denmark and Scandinavia, and can tell you what to expect and where to look if you want some guidance. We honour a 24 hour grace period after you make your reservation for Villa Magdalen, so you can safely book the villa first and then arrange your flights.

Directions from Varna Airport to Villa Magdalen

• Go out of the airport

• Turn LEFT to ALBENA

• After 6km turn RIGHT to ALBENA

• After 30km there is a T-junction, LEFT to ALBENA

• After 10 minutes another T-junction RIGHT to ALBENA

• 2km later there is a roundabout turn LEFT direction BALCHICK (9 KM) pass a small sign which says 'fish-fish'

• Hotel/restaurant/guest house on your left which says HOUSE GUEST now TURN LEFT (this is 3.9 km from the roundabout)

• Go up the hill

• Pass 7 right hand little roads

• Take the 8th little road on your right

• Villa Magdalen is the white house on your right

• This trip should take you about 35 to 40 minutes.
